A wellness examination includes an evaluation of all of your pet’s major organ systems. We’ll use the wellness visit to ask you questions about your pet’s behavior, appetite, exercise habits, and regular activities at home. Parasites can cause serious illness and even death in pets. Let us help you find the right preventative to keep your pets healthy and safe year-round.

• Ticks can transmit serious tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme disease, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia.  Some ticks are small and hard to find on your pet.
• Fleas can transmit tapeworms and Bartonella – the bacteria that causes “cat-scratch fever” in humans.
• Heartworm, another type of parasite is transmitted by mosquitoes. Heartworms live in your pet’s lungs and heart, causing damage to these organs, and sometimes even death.
• Intestinal parasites, like giardia, roundworms, whipworms, tapeworms and hookworms, also threaten pets and are even transmissible to humans.

You may not always be able to tell if your pet has parasites. Fleas can hide under your pet’s fur, and some ticks are very tiny (only the size of a pinhead), so they are very difficult to find. Intestinal parasites like roundworms can cause diarrhea and other problems, but many infected pets don’t show any signs of illness at all.

One of the most common and valuable medical diagnostic tools is radiography or x-rays. X-rays are highly useful for screening areas of the body that have contrasting tissue densities or when evaluating solid tissues. Our hospital is equipped to perform routine radiology services to identify many types of illness or injury when pets are sick or suffer a trauma.

X-rays can be used to detect a variety of ailments including arthritis, tumors, and lung abnormalities including pneumonia, bladder, and kidney stones. They are also used to evaluate bone damage, organ integrity and identify foreign objects that may have been ingested.

Our veterinarians may recommend x-rays as a part of a diagnostic procedure if your pet is experiencing any health conditions.

Ultrasonography is a non-invasive, pain-free procedure that uses sound waves to examine a pet’s internal organs providing additional details not available by other diagnostics such as radiographs. It can be used to evaluate the animal’s heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and bladder; to detect fluid, bladder stones, cysts, tumors, or abscesses; and to confirm pregnancy or monitor an ongoing pregnancy.

We may use this imaging technique in conjunction with radiography (x-rays) and other diagnostic methods to ensure a proper diagnosis, monitor progression, and response to treatment.

The Veterinarian applies gel to the surface of the body and then methodically moves a transducer across the skin to record images of the area of interest. The gel helps the transducer slide more easily and create a more accurate visual image.

Ultrasound does not involve radiation, has no known side effects, and doesn’t typically require pets to be sedated or anesthetized. The hair in the area to be examined usually needs to be shaved so the Veterinarian can obtain the best result.

The procedure takes about 30min in most cases and the images are recorded and evaluated by our staff as well as being sent to a board-certified radiologist (specialist in ultrasound) for review and treatment recommendation.

We offer ultrasound as part of a senior wellness program available at a very reasonable rate in order to diagnose and treat emerging diseases as a means of early diagnosis and intervention so that the best outcome can be provided for your pet.

Endoscopy Allows for visualization and evaluation of the esophagus and stomach. Endoscopy can be used to biopsy esophageal and gastric masses as well as other diagnostics (IBD, bacterial overgrowth, and gastritis). We are able to also use endoscopy to retrieve small esophageal and gastric foreign bodies.

Keeping your pet comfortable is our goal.  From routine procedures (such as spay/neuter or dental cleanings), to more advanced medical treatments (such as orthopedic or emergency surgeries ), to chronically painful conditions (such as arthritis or back pain), we are dedicated to providing safe and effective pain management to every patient.

Accidents happen.  Make sure your pet finds their way home if they become lost. Microchipping your best friend is one of the safest ways to protect your pet during an emergency.

How does a Microchip work?

A microchip is a chip about the size of a grain of rice.  We implant the chip between the shoulder blades.  This can be done at any time. In the office or during the time of spay and neuter. The chip has a unique identification number with all of your contact information linked to it.

If your pet is found and brought to a shelter or vet’s office, they will be scanned with a handheld scanner.  The microchipping company is contacted to retrieve your information.

Foxfield uses AVID Microchips.  It is important to always remember to update your microchip if you move or change a phone number.
